The FAV accepts gifts of any size and many types of assets other than cash can be used to make a gift.
Making gifts
How donors make gifts
Some donors make gifts to the FAV to directly fund project grants. More often, donors give to the FAV to establish permanent endowed funds to support project grants to address community needs over time.
Gifts made to endowed funds are not spent but invested for long-term growth. Each year, some of the earnings from the endowed fund are disbursed as grants to fulfill the fund’s purpose. As the invested balance grows, more funding is available for distribution over time.

Explore all types of funds
The minimum to establish an endowed fund ($5,000) does not need to be contributed at one time and a donor has three years to meet the minimum. A donor can give to a campaign/special projects fund (described below) until the fund reaches $5,000 or more. At that time, the accumulated gifts can be used to establish a new endowment for purposes specified by the donor or granted for a specific purpose.
The FAV was created to administer many kinds of endowed funds established by many donors.
If you have questions about the types of endowed funds the FAV administers as described below, please feel free to contact Donna Stanley at the FAV by email at appalachian.va@gmail.com or by phone at (276) 565-8384.
