Spark and sustain – The FAV will support new projects and sustain the work of existing organizations through grant-making. 

Address community challenges and capitalizing on opportunities - As an organization to continue in perpetuity, the FAV takes the long view in improving community well-being (such is described in the work of CWDF that has improved regional access to drinking water supplies over many decades). Growth in the assets of the Foundation for Appalachian Virginia (and the diversity of funds that are established by its donors) will help tackle difficult community challenges, leverage other funding, and improve the quality of life in the region.
